What Candidates Say About Us

Education & Training Jobs FAQs

  • What types of education and training roles does Chandler Macleod recruit for?

We place candidates across a broad range of education and training contexts. In the schools and early learning sector, we recruit for classroom teachers, early childhood educators, education support officers and school administration roles. In the vocational education and training sector, we place trainers and assessors, RTO coordinators, compliance officers and student services staff. In corporate and government settings, we recruit for learning and development advisors, instructional designers, learning management system administrators, training coordinators and organisational capability specialists. We work with government agencies, private schools, TAFEs, RTOs, universities, not-for-profits and large enterprise clients across all Australian states and territories.

  • What qualifications and registrations do I need for education and training roles in Australia?

Requirements vary considerably by role type and sector. Classroom teachers in schools must hold a relevant teaching degree and be registered with the teacher registration authority in their state or territory, such as the Victorian Institute of Teaching, the NSW Education Standards Authority, or equivalent bodies in other states. Early childhood educators require a Certificate III or Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care as a minimum, with degree-qualified teachers required for certain roles under the National Quality Framework. VET trainers and assessors must hold a current TAE40116 or TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, along with the vocational competency and industry currency relevant to the units they deliver. Corporate L&D and instructional design roles typically do not require specific formal qualifications, though a degree in education, human resources, organisational psychology or a related field is commonly preferred alongside demonstrated experience.

  • What is the difference between a VET trainer and a corporate L&D professional?

VET (Vocational Education and Training) trainers and assessors deliver accredited training and assessment against nationally recognised qualifications through registered training organisations, TAFEs or enterprise RTOs. Their work is governed by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) and requires formal TAE qualifications and current industry currency. Corporate learning and development professionals design and deliver non-accredited training, capability programs, leadership development and onboarding within organisations, typically without ASQA regulation. The skills overlap in facilitation and instructional design, but the compliance requirements, employment contexts and career pathways are quite different. Chandler Macleod recruits for both and can advise on which pathway aligns best with your background and goals.

  • Are there casual relief teaching and regional education jobs available?

Yes. Casual relief teaching is one of the more consistent sources of education employment across Australia, particularly in government school systems where day-to-day absences generate regular demand. Regional and remote teaching roles are also available, and many state education departments offer incentive packages for teachers willing to work in hard-to-staff schools. Chandler Macleod recruits for casual, fixed-term and permanent roles across metropolitan, regional and remote locations. Candidates open to regional placements generally have access to a broader range of opportunities and shorter wait times between placements.

  • Do I need a Working with Children Check or police clearance for education roles?

Yes, in virtually all cases. Any role involving regular contact with children or young people in Australia requires a valid Working with Children Check (or equivalent), which is state-specific and must be obtained before commencing work. The check is known as a Working With Children Check in Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia, a Blue Card in Queensland, a Working with Vulnerable People registration in the ACT, and a Screening Clearance in South Australia. In addition, most education employers require a National Police Check and some require an NDIS Worker Screening Check for roles involving students with disability. These checks must be current before placement can proceed, so candidates should begin the process early if they do not already hold them.

  • What career pathways exist for education and training professionals in Australia?

Education and training careers offer well-defined progression pathways across both the school and corporate sectors. Classroom teachers can move into coordinator, head of department, deputy principal and principal roles within school systems. VET trainers and assessors commonly progress into RTO management, compliance and quality assurance, curriculum development, or ASQA auditing roles. Corporate L&D professionals often move into senior learning design, capability strategy, organisational development or HR leadership positions as they build their experience. Professionals with backgrounds in both accredited training and corporate L&D are increasingly sought after as enterprise RTOs grow in sectors such as mining, healthcare and government, where organisations are building internal training capability to address skills shortages.
