What is BestFit™?
Most recruitment processes assess candidates in isolation. They measure skills, run an interview, and check references. What they rarely measure is fit, whether this person's personality, motivation, and cognitive style will translate into performance in this specific role, this specific team, and this specific culture.
BestFit™ was built to close that gap. It starts not with the candidate, but with the role. We map the behavioural requirements of the position before we assess anyone against it. That success profile becomes the benchmark. Every candidate is then assessed against the profile, not against each other.
The result is not a ranking of who presented best. It is a structured recommendation about who will perform best in this environment.
Behaviour = FN (Personality × Environment)
Why Standard Hiring Processes Fall Short
Most early hiring failures are not skills failures. Research consistently shows the majority are driven by poor cultural fit, misaligned motivation, or a mismatch between personality and role demands, none of which a CV or standard interview reliably reveals.
The Cost of a Bad Hire
Estimates place the cost of a failed hire at between 50% and 200% of annual salary, depending on seniority. For executive and specialist roles, that cost can be significantly higher.
What Interviews Miss
Structured interviews predict performance with moderate accuracy. Without psychometric data, interviewers tend to hire in their own image, selecting for comfort rather than fit.
The Environment Factor
The same person can thrive in one organisation and struggle in another. BestFit™ makes the environment a measurable variable, not an afterthought.
Ready to hire with more confidence?
How BestFit™ Works
A structured, five-stage process that moves from role brief to confident hiring decision.
01
Job Brief
We meet with you to understand the role, the working environment, and the team culture. This is not a job description review, it is a conversation about what performance looks like in this specific context.
02
Job Analysis
We build a success profile: the cognitive, motivational, and personality signature of a high performer in this role and environment. This becomes the benchmark against which every candidate is assessed.
03
Assessment
Candidates are assessed using psychometric instruments selected for the role level and purpose. Our accredited psychologists and BestFit™ consultants administer and score assessments that go beyond what a CV or interview can reveal.
04
Interpret Results
Our consultants interpret the data against the success profile. We answer four questions: Does this candidate have the right skills? Does their personality match the role demands? Will they be motivated to do this job well? Will they fit the culture?
05
Deliver BestFit™
You receive a structured recommendation with the evidence behind it, not just a shortlist, but confidence in your decision. The right person, for the right role, in the right environment.
BestFit™ Assessment Tools
BestFit™ draws on a suite of validated psychometric instruments, selected for the role level, purpose, and assessment objectives. Our organisational psychologists hold accreditation across a broad range of tools, so the assessment is always matched to the question being asked, not defaulted to a single instrument.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is BestFit™ and how does it work?
BestFit™ is Chandler Macleod's proprietary psychometric assessment methodology, built on the principle that behaviour is a function of personality and environment. Rather than assessing candidates in isolation, BestFit™ first maps the behavioural requirements of the role and organisation, then assesses each candidate against that profile using validated psychometric instruments. The result is a structured recommendation about whether a candidate has the skills, motivation, personality, and cognitive profile to perform in that specific role and environment.
What psychometric tools does BestFit™ use?
BestFit™ draws on a range of validated psychometric instruments selected for the role level and purpose. These include Helix, Chandler Macleod's proprietary assessment tool, as well as instruments from SHL, Hogan, Saville, Genos, Pearson, and Criteria, among others. Our consulting psychologists and BestFit™ accredited consultants select the appropriate tools based on the job brief, role complexity, and assessment objectives.
Is BestFit™ used for all Chandler Macleod recruitment?
Yes. Every Chandler Macleod consultant is BestFit™ accredited, which means they are trained to apply the BestFit™ framework to their recruitment process. For permanent and executive roles, this typically includes a full psychometric assessment. For volume and contingent hiring, BestFit™ is applied through structured scoring frameworks and assessment centre methodology. For consulting engagements such as leadership development or succession planning, our organisational psychologists administer and interpret assessments directly.
How is BestFit™ different from standard psychometric testing?
Most psychometric testing assesses the candidate in isolation, producing a profile of their personality or cognitive ability without reference to the specific role or environment. BestFit™ starts with a job analysis that defines the success profile for the role first, then assesses candidates against that profile. This means the output is not just "what is this person like" but "how well does this person fit this job, this team, and this organisation", a more accurate predictor of performance and retention.
Can BestFit™ be used outside of recruitment?
Yes. BestFit™ psychometric methodology is used across a range of talent management applications beyond recruitment: leadership development and coaching, succession planning and talent identification, team effectiveness and culture assessments, individual development planning, and outplacement and career transition support. Chandler Macleod's organisational psychologists work with clients on these applications independently of any recruitment engagement.
