People Remain at the Centre of Every Decision
How Chandler Macleod uses artificial intelligence responsibly to support candidates, employers and recruitment consultants.
OUR COMMITMENT
AI may assist our work, but it does not replace professional judgement. Our consultants review, assess and remain accountable for recruitment outcomes.
Our Approach to Responsible AI
At Chandler Macleod, we embrace innovation that helps us deliver better recruitment outcomes while maintaining high standards of fairness, professionalism and human judgement. Artificial intelligence is one of the tools we use to support our recruitment teams, helping them work more efficiently and enabling a more responsive experience for candidates and employers.
AI does not replace the expertise, empathy or decision-making capabilities of our recruitment professionals. Every recruitment decision remains the responsibility of our people.
How We Use AI
We may use approved AI technologies to support recruitment activities such as drafting communications, summarising information, identifying relevant skills and experience, enhancing search capabilities and streamlining administrative tasks. These tools help our consultants spend less time on manual processes and more time engaging directly with candidates and employers. AI supports efficiency and insight, while our recruitment professionals focus on relationships, individual circumstances and expert guidance.
Our AI assistant, Mac, may also speak directly with candidates who apply to us, to gather information about their experience, availability and preferences.
Are you looking for work?
Meet Mac, Our AI Assistant
Mac is our AI assistant. Mac is not a person, and we will always make that clear when you are interacting with it. The name is a nod to the Macleod in Chandler Macleod, chosen by our own people through a company-wide naming challenge. If you apply for a role with us, Mac may contact you to ask about your experience, availability and what you are looking for, then pass what you share to the consultant managing the role.
For many candidates this means a faster response and an earlier opportunity to explain things a CV cannot show, including people who find a written application harder than a conversation. Mac gathers and organises information. Your suitability for a role is assessed by a consultant. We stay true to our
BestFit™ methodology, which looks beyond the CV to how well a person and a role actually fit. Interviews, including any conversation with Mac, form only one part of that assessment.

What Mac does
- Identifies itself as an AI Assistant before you answer anything
- Contacts you after you apply, so you hear back sooner
- Asks about your experience, availability and preferences
- Passes what you share to the consultant managing the role
- Helps consultants search, sort and summarise applications
What Mac does not do
- Decide whether you are suitable for a role
- Progress or decline your application on its own
- Replace your conversation with a consultant
- Assess you against BestFit™, which a consultant does
- Pretend to be a person
Human-in-the-Loop Recruitment
A fundamental principle of our approach is human-in-the-loop decision-making. While AI may assist with analysing information or identifying relevant patterns, it does not make recruitment decisions. Our consultants review, assess and validate AI-generated outputs before they are used in the recruitment process. Technology-assisted recommendations are considered alongside professional expertise, market knowledge, candidate interactions and employer requirements.
What human oversight means in practice
01
AI assists
Technology may surface information, patterns or draft content.
02
People review
A consultant checks relevance, accuracy, fairness and context.
03
People decide
Qualified recruitment professionals remain responsible for outcomes.
Are you hiring?
Decisions Remain with Our Consultants
Decisions about candidate suitability, shortlisting, interviews, placements and employment outcomes are made by recruitment professionals, not by technology alone. Our consultants apply context, ask questions, consider information that may not be visible in a profile and exercise professional judgement. This ensures there is a person accountable for how technology-supported information is interpreted and used. No candidate is progressed or declined on the basis of an automated output alone.
Fairness, Transparency and Accountability
We recognise that AI systems can produce inaccurate, incomplete or biased outputs. Our consultants are expected to critically evaluate AI-generated content and challenge recommendations where appropriate. We promote fairness, bias awareness and responsible technology use across our business. Where AI is involved in a recruitment process, we are committed to being transparent about its role and ensuring people are treated fairly and consistently.
What This Means for You
If you are looking for work
You may be contacted by Mac after you apply, and you will be told it is an AI assistant. A consultant reviews your application and assesses your BestFit™ for the role You can ask how AI was used in your application at any time, and you can ask for a person to review it.
If you are hiring
AI helps our consultants work through larger volumes of applications and respond to candidates faster, which shortens time to shortlist. The consultant you deal with remains accountable for who is put in front of you and why, and can explain the reasoning behind any shortlist.
Protecting Privacy and Data Security
Safeguarding candidate, client and employee information is a core priority. We use approved AI technologies that are subject to governance, privacy and security requirements. Personal information must be handled in accordance with applicable privacy obligations and internal controls. We do not permit unapproved AI tools or practices that could compromise confidential or personal information.
Technology Supporting Human Expertise
Recruitment is ultimately a people business. AI can support efficiency and provide useful insights, but it cannot replace the human qualities that underpin effective hiring decisions, including empathy, judgement, relationship-building and an understanding of the unique needs of candidates and employers. At Chandler Macleod, technology supports our consultants so they can focus on what matters most: helping people find meaningful work and helping organisations access the talent they need.
Responsible technology. Meaningful human oversight. People-centred recruitment.
