Mechanical Fitter – Defence | $69–$71/hr + Penalties | Casual project to July 2027 | Mid-January Start

Chandler Macleod is seeking experienced Mechanical Fitters for an upcoming start in January on a major defence program based in Osborne. If you’re hands-on, safety-focused and confident working to high compliance standards, this is a great opportunity for project work through to July 2027 (with potential for further extension).

The role
You’ll be completing mechanical assembly and install work across a high-compliance site, including:
  • Mechanical assembly, fit-out and installation of equipment and components
  • Installation, overhaul and strip/rebuild of mechanical equipment
  • Planned and reactive maintenance and repairs to keep equipment performing safely and reliably
  • Reading and working from technical drawings, procedures and specifications (with a strong quality focus)
  • Testing and commissioning activities as required
  • Working closely with other trades, supervisors and QA to deliver safe, on-time outcomes in a structured environment
 
 
Essential requirements (must have)
To be considered, you will need:
  • Australian Citizenship
  • Trade Certificate (Mechanical Engineering / Mechanical Fitting)
  • National Police Clearance issued within the last 3 months
  • Confined Space (refreshed within the last 2 years)
  • Working at Heights + EWP
  • Proven mechanical assembly / installation experience in defence or heavy industrial
  • Current driver’s licence + reliable vehicle
 
Desirable
  • Hepatitis A & B vaccinations
  • Basic computer skills (job tracking, checklists, basic systems)
 
Security / site access
Successful candidates will be required to apply for a Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Identification Card (NSSIC) following interview.
