About the Opportunity

Rio Tinto is a global mining and materials company focused on finding, mining and processing the natural resources that are essential to modern life. Through Chandler Macleod’s partnership with Rio Tinto, we are seeking an experienced Specialist Project Planner to join their Project Controls team.

This role is based at Central Park in Perth and will support a portfolio of major projects across the business, with site visits to the Pilbara. Working closely with project delivery, cost, estimating and contracts teams, you will play a key role in driving planning excellence, schedule integrity and project performance across a diverse project portfolio.

Reporting to the Superintendent Project Controls and working in a challenging and dynamic environment, you will:
  • Provide training and mentoring to develop resources within the team.
  • Develop and maintain company schedules in P6 to the level of detail determined by the phase maturity model.
  • Develop Basis of Schedule documents as per the company template.
  • Proactively analyse projects/programs and provide technical insight in the areas of schedule to project stakeholders.
  • Review and analyse contractors’ schedules using industry standard techniques.
  • Conduct site visits to validate progress and schedule forecast dates, discuss sequencing of the works with the site team, and identify areas of concern and potential change.
  • Ensure the Contractor and project team agree a project baseline as per contractual requirements for reporting and control purposes.
  • Review contractors progress measurement methodology and assess suitability for accurate progress measurement.
  • Assess and produce productivity reports identifying causes for deviations.
  • Identify areas where the contractors’ schedule is non-compliant with the project controls requirements specification.
  • Review progress and performance trend information to develop internal assessment of project completion.
  • Ensure company schedules are aligned with the company estimate and include allowances for areas of growth and contingency.
  • Drive relationships between delivery, cost, planning, estimating and contracts groups to ensure accuracy in current trends.
  • Assist in development of key project controls improvement initiatives.
  • Drive the integrity of integrated project cost reports.
  • Support compliance with standardised processes, systems and tools.

About You
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
  • Good understanding of schedule management techniques and methods.
  • Strong experience working within Primavera P6 scheduling software.
  • Must be a self-starter to drive and work with minimal supervision to rapidly adjust to a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work in a tight schedule to meet reporting cut offs.
  • Be a team player, who can work closely with project members, cutting across different levels.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
