We are seeking an experienced Finance Officer to provide financial support across budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and business operations within a busy local government environment.
This short-term contract will support several critical financial activities during a key planning and reporting period.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and process Position Vacancy Memos submitted by Coordinators, ensuring financial information is accurate, complete, and compliant with organisational requirements.
- Support Monthly Financial Management Meetings by preparing, running, and reviewing financial reports and working closely with Coordinators and Service Leads to monitor financial performance.
- Assist with Quarter 1 Forecast activities, including analysing actual expenditure against budget, identifying variances, and updating financial forecasts.
- Contribute to the preparation and review of the Community Services budget ahead of the November budget planning cycle.
- Prepare and assist with internal and external financial reporting requirements.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, taxation, cash management, auditing, and financial compliance activities.
- Ensure adherence to relevant Australian Taxation Office (ATO) requirements and other applicable legislation.
- Provide general financial analysis and support to the broader finance team.
- Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Accounting, or a related discipline, together with relevant experience, or lesser formal qualifications supported by substantial relevant experience.
- Demonstrated accounting experience with exposure to budgeting, forecasting, internal and external reporting, taxation, cash management, and auditing.
- Sound knowledge of Australian Taxation Office requirements and relevant legislation.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Well-developed IT skills, including experience using Financial Management Information Systems and advanced Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple business units.
- Local government experience will be highly regarded.
