Chandler Macleod is recruiting on behalf of our client for an exceptional opportunity within a high-profile Federal Government agency supporting Australia’s most significant long-term capability program.

This is a unique chance for an experienced Commercial Director to influence strategic procurement decisions, develop innovative commercial strategies, and contribute to a nationally important project that will shape Australia’s security and capabilities for decades to come.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Program Manager, the Commercial Director will oversee the development and delivery of complex procurement and contractual activities. You will be responsible for providing strategic commercial advice, leading tendering processes, managing high-value contracts, and steering procurement teams to deliver exceptional commercial outcomes. This is a critical position for a strategic, results-driven professional who thrives in a dynamic security environment and excels at stakeholder engagement at all levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop commercial strategies for large-scale procurement initiatives
  • Oversee tendering, contract formation, and management processes
  • Provide expert commercial advice aligned with legislative and policy requirements
  • Manage resources, set priorities, and develop teams across procurement functions
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Drive continuous improvement in commercial processes and outcomes
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies and risk management standards

About You:

You will demonstrate:
  • Proven experience leading complex procurement and contract management activities
  • Strong understanding of the Commonwealth Procurement Framework and related legislation
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement commercial strategies
  • Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience working within government or highly regulated environments (desired)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 security clearance
