Chandler Macleod is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to join Rio Tinto's Amrun Haul Road Project in Weipa. This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of a high-profile civil infrastructure project, leading both self-perform and subcontracted work packages in a complex mining environment.
We are specifically seeking candidates with demonstrated experience managing and delivering projects through a self-perform contractor model, with strong capabilities across contractor management, project controls, commercial performance and stakeholder engagement.
Where You'll Be Working
Our client, Rio Tinto, operates one of the world's largest bauxite mining operations in Weipa, Far North Queensland. The operation includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, shiploaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals.
This role will support Amrun, Rio Tinto's newest bauxite mine, completed in 2018. The operation is expected to extend Rio Tinto's Weipa bauxite operations for decades to come, building on more than 55 years of mining history on the Western Cape while continuing to create jobs and support business growth across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of haul road, earthworks, drainage and civil infrastructure projects
- Manage self-perform workforces, contractors and subcontractors
- Oversee procurement, tendering, planning and scheduling activities
- Drive project budgets, forecasting, cost controls and reporting
- Ensure compliance with QA, HSE and environmental requirements
- Manage project risks and develop mitigation strategies
- Conduct site inspections and monitor construction performance
- Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships
- Drive productivity, programme performance and project outcomes
About You
- Degree-qualified Civil Engineer or related discipline
- Demonstrated experience delivering major civil projects within mining, resources or infrastructure environments
- Proven experience managing projects through a self-perform contractor model
- Strong contractor and subcontractor management experience
- Experience delivering haul roads, bulk earthworks, tailings, drainage or similar civil infrastructure projects
- Strong commercial acumen and project controls experience
- Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder engagement skills
