About the role
We are currently seeking an experienced Labourer / Road Worker to join our state government client’s team based at the Russell Vale Depot. This is a great opportunity for someone with civil construction, concreting or road works experience to join a skilled team working on traffic signal infrastructure and associated construction activities.
 
The role will involve assisting electrical and civil construction crews with the installation, maintenance and upgrading of traffic signal infrastructure, as well as a range of general construction and labouring duties.
The position will commence ASAP for an initial 3-month contract, with a strong possibility of extension.
 
The role operates on a 9-day fortnight, with predominantly night shift hours of 6:00pm – 2:30am Sunday to Thursday, with day shift hours of 6:30am – 3:30pm also available.
 
This role may require working away from home (every 6 weeks to two months) for approximately a week, accommodation will be provided when camping away from the depot.
 
 
Duties
  • Assist with the installation of traffic signal poles, pits, conduits, cables and associated infrastructure.
  • Undertake excavation, trenching, backfilling, concreting and reinstatement works.
  • Assist with the construction of kerbs, ramps and footpaths.
  • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools and small plant equipment.
  • Assist with cable hauling, pit installation and commissioning activities.
  • Load, unload and transport materials, equipment and tools to and from worksites.
  • Assist maintenance crews with fault repairs, signal inspections and emergency response activities as required.
 
Skills and Experience
  • Previous experience as a Concreter, with formwork experience.
  • Previous experience constructing kerbs, ramps and footpaths is highly desirable.
  • Experience in civil construction, electrical construction or traffic infrastructure works will be highly regarded.
  • Experience using hand and power tools.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Concrete finishing experience highly regarded.
 
Desirable:
  • Construction Induction Card (White Card).
  • Traffic Control or Traffic Management qualifications.
  • MR/HR Driver’s Licence.
  • Plant operator tickets, such as excavator, skid steer or EWP.
  • First Aid Certification.
  • Experience working around live traffic environments.
