Working under limited direction, you will play an important role in supporting project governance and assurance activities across a diverse project portfolio, ensuring projects are delivered in alignment with established frameworks, standards, and organisational objectives.
About the Role As a Project Assurance Officer, you will contribute to the oversight and continuous improvement of project delivery by conducting assurance activities, reviewing project documentation and reporting, identifying emerging risks and issues, and providing evidence-based advice to project teams and senior stakeholders.
You will work closely with project managers, governance bodies, and subject matter experts to strengthen project management practices and support informed decision-making across a complex portfolio of work.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct project assurance activities in line with established frameworks, processes, and standards.
- Review project documentation, governance arrangements, schedules, budgets, risks, issues, benefits, and reporting artefacts.
- Analyse project performance information and assurance evidence to identify trends, risks, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare high-quality reports, briefs, governance papers, dashboards, and recommendations for senior stakeholders and decision-makers.
- Support executive oversight through the provision of clear, evidence-based advice.
- Build productive relationships with project managers, senior responsible officers, and key stakeholders.
- Contribute to the improvement of project governance, assurance frameworks, templates, guidance material, and reporting processes.
- Support the coordination of governance forums, including agenda preparation, action tracking, decision registers, and follow-up activities.
- Escalate emerging risks, issues, and areas of non-compliance where required.
- Promote consistent project management practices and support capability uplift initiatives across project teams.
- Experience in project management, governance, assurance, risk management, reporting, evaluation, or a related discipline.
- Sound understanding of project lifecycle management, including planning, governance, risk and issue management, scheduling, benefits management, reporting, and assurance practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret information from multiple sources and identify key risks and insights.
- Excellent written communication skills, with experience preparing briefs, reports, committee papers, dashboards, and executive-level advice.
- Strong verbal communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Sound judgement, initiative, and the ability to work independently while managing competing priorities.
- High attention to detail and commitment to delivering accurate, quality outcomes within deadlines.
- A proactive approach to continuous improvement and enhancing governance and assurance practices.
- Experience supporting governance committees, project assurance reviews, portfolio reporting, or enterprise project management functions.
- Experience contributing to project capability uplift initiatives, process improvement activities, or assurance frameworks.
- Qualifications or training in project management, governance, assurance, risk management, business analysis, evaluation, or related fields.
- Must hold, or have the ability to obtain and maintain, a Baseline Security Clearance.
