About the Team
The Legal Practice Management team provides the behind-the-scenes support that helps the agency's legal teams operate effectively.
The team supports the Chief Counsel Division by managing a wide range of business functions, including recruitment, onboarding, reporting, procurement, projects, and business improvement. It also helps strengthen legal capability across the agency by supporting learning, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
This is a collaborative team that works closely with legal professionals and business areas to ensure the agency's legal services run smoothly and efficiently.
About the Role
The agency is seeking an experienced and organised Legal Practice Management Officer to lead a small team and support the delivery of business and operational services within the legal function.
This leadership role is responsible for managing competing priorities, overseeing workflow, supporting strategic projects and providing advice on complex operational and policy matters. The position requires sound judgement, initiative and the ability to build strong relationships across the agency.
The role offers a mix of people leadership, stakeholder engagement, business improvement and operational management, making it ideal for someone who enjoys variety and working in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and support a team to deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Manage team workflow, allocate work and set priorities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide operational, technical and policy advice on complex matters.
- Prepare reports, briefing papers, correspondence, policies and other business documentation.
- Support strategic planning, projects and business improvement initiatives.
- Maintain business systems, reporting functions and administrative processes.
- Review, develop and update policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with legislative, financial and administrative requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, drive innovation and support organisational change.
You Must Have
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including coaching, developing and supporting staff.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Proven stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build productive working relationships.
- Experience preparing professional documents such as reports, briefs, policies or procedures.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage complex issues.
- Experience supporting projects, business improvement or organisational change initiatives.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word, Outlook and PowerPoint, with experience using SharePoint.
- An understanding of governance, compliance and working within legislative or policy frameworks.
