About the Role

We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Information Release Officer to join our clients team. This role is responsible for supporting the implementation and administration of information release processes in accordance with relevant legislation and departmental requirements.
The successful candidate will manage requests for information, undertake detailed records reviews, and ensure compliance with legislative obligations including the Freedom of Information Act 1992 (WA), State Records Act 2000, National Redress Scheme for Institutional Child Sexual Abuse Act 2018, and the Children and Community Services Act 2004.

This position may involve reviewing records that are highly sensitive and confronting in nature and requires a professional, resilient and empathetic approach.

Offered on a temporary basis for a period of up to 12 months.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and administer requests for the release of information in accordance with relevant legislation and policies.
  • Research, analyse and review records to determine appropriate disclosure requirements.
  • Interpret and apply legislative requirements, regulations and departmental procedures.
  • Assist in the coordination and management of summonses, subpoenas and court orders.
  • Prepare, review and vet records and files for release to courts and other authorised agencies.
  • Provide high-quality advice and support regarding information release processes.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation to support compliance and audit requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and external agencies to achieve timely outcomes.
  • Undertake a range of information management activities to support client needs and organisational objectives.

  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies and regulations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of legislation supporting the release of information, including the Freedom of Information Act 1992 (WA).
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality.
Desirable
  • Experience interpreting and providing advice on Freedom of Information (FOI) legislation in Western Australia.
  • Previous experience in records management, information governance, legal administration, FOI, privacy, or a related compliance environment.
