About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking motivated and reliable General Services Officers to join their Place Management team. This hands-on outdoor role offers the opportunity to contribute to the presentation and maintenance of Canberra's public spaces, helping keep parks, recreational areas, shopping precincts, and community facilities safe, clean, and attractive for residents and visitors.

This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy physical outdoor work, take pride in maintaining high standards, and work well both independently and as part of a team.

The Role
As a General Services Officer, you will be responsible for a variety of horticultural maintenance and cleaning activities across public open spaces and community areas throughout Canberra.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform horticultural maintenance and cleaning duties individually or as part of a team.
  • Maintain public parks, open spaces, recreational facilities, neighbourhood areas, and shopping precincts.
  • Undertake mowing, weeding, pruning, litter collection, and leaf removal activities.
  • Clean public amenities, including toilet facilities and public spaces.
  • Operate a range of horticultural equipment, machinery, and vehicles safely and effectively.
  • Conduct pre-start inspections and basic maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Assist with tree and shrub maintenance and weed control programs.
  • Follow established service standards, safety procedures, and operational requirements.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to workplace health and safety at all times.
About You To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, horticulture, cleaning, labouring, or a similar field.
  • A strong commitment to workplace safety and following instructions.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Basic digital literacy and confidence using mobile devices.
  • Reliability, initiative, and a strong work ethic.
  • Physical fitness to perform manual outdoor duties in varying weather conditions.
Essential Requirements
  • Permanent Resident of Australia.
  • Current C-Class Driver's Licence.
  • White Card (Construction Induction).
  • Asbestos Awareness Card.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role.
  • Willingness to wear a uniform and work from various depot locations to meet operational requirements.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) qualification or willingness to obtain.
  • Medium Rigid (MR) Driver's Licence or higher.
  • Ability to read and interpret operating procedures, safety documentation, traffic management plans, and machinery manuals.
