An opportunity has become available with a well-regarded local government organisation seeking an experienced Freedom of Information & Privacy Advisor to provide specialist support during an 8-week coverage period.
This is a key role within the Governance and Integrity function, responsible for ensuring compliance with Freedom of Information, Privacy and Data Protection legislation while providing expert advice across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary subject matter expert for Freedom of Information (FOI) and Privacy matters.
- Coordinate and manage FOI and Privacy requests in accordance with legislative requirements.
- Provide strategic oversight and advice regarding Council's legislative obligations.
- Maintain and improve FOI and Privacy frameworks, policies and procedures.
- Liaise with key external bodies including OVIC, the Victorian Ombudsman, IBAC and other government stakeholders as required.
- Deliver education and training to support organisational compliance.
- Provide specialist advice on privacy, data protection and information management obligations.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Extensive knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 and related legislative requirements.
- Strong experience applying and advising on the interpretation of the Local Government Act and Freedom of Information legislation.
- Previous experience within a senior FOI, Privacy, Governance or Integrity role.
- The ability to understand and interpret complex legislative and policy matters and provide practical advice to stakeholders.
- Highly developed analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Tertiary qualifications in Governance, Business, Management or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
