About the Role
As the Cultural Safety Learning Lead, you will drive the design and delivery of learning and development initiatives that build organisational capability and support culturally safe practices across the workforce.
Working closely with First Nations communities, internal stakeholders, and senior executives, you will lead the development of programs that support improved access to services and better outcomes for First Nations peoples.
This is a highly influential role suited to an experienced professional with strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, learning and development, and strategic policy capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development and implementation of cultural safety learning programs and workforce capability initiatives.
- Provide high-level strategic, policy and cultural safety advice to senior leaders and executive stakeholders.
- Prepare complex documentation, including ministerial briefs, executive papers, submissions and reports.
- Lead consultation and co-design activities with First Nations peoples, communities, organisations and key stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong relationships across government, community and organisational networks.
- Represent the agency in meetings, forums, committees and working groups.
- Collaborate with HR, Learning and Development and operational teams to align capability initiatives with strategic workforce priorities.
- Monitor program delivery, risks, performance measures and outcomes, providing regular reporting and recommendations.
- Lead, mentor and support team members while fostering a positive, culturally safe and high-performing work environment.
- Champion innovative and strengths-based approaches to capability development and organisational change.
You will bring a strong combination of leadership, cultural capability, stakeholder engagement and learning and development expertise.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated experience building genuine partnerships with First Nations peoples, communities and organisations.
- Experience leading learning and development programs, capability uplift initiatives or workforce development strategies.
- Strong understanding of cultural safety principles and how they can be embedded across organisations.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement, consultation and co-design capabilities.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with experience providing evidence-based advice.
- Excellent written communication skills, including preparing executive briefs, reports and strategic documentation.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage priorities and deliver outcomes in complex environments.
- Strong understanding of governance, risk management and program delivery frameworks.
- Understanding of First Nations cultures, histories, perspectives and community engagement approaches.
- Knowledge of cultural safety frameworks and best practice approaches.
- Understanding of Commonwealth policy development and government decision-making processes.
- Experience applying strategic planning, governance and performance monitoring principles.
- Knowledge of project and program management methodologies.
- Ability to use evidence and data to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated experience working with First Nations peoples, communities and/or organisations.
- Qualifications in Education, Training, Human Resources, Organisational Development or a related field.
- Experience designing and delivering learning programs within government, community or service delivery settings.
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122 or equivalent).
- Experience working within the NDIA, NIAA, Department of Health and Aged Care, Disability sector, or Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.
- Tertiary qualifications in Indigenous Studies, Public Policy, Social Sciences, Law, Education or a related discipline.
