About the Role We are seeking suitably qualified and motivated individuals to step into the role of Track Protection Officer (TPO), supporting the safe and efficient delivery of rail operations across RTIO inland and coastal sites.
This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a leadership-focused safeworking role, working across renewals, maintenance, and major projects, while playing a key role in driving safety standards and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute safeworking activities for multi-contractor obstructions
- Liaise with key stakeholders including Train Control, Network Specialists, and Planning teams
- Support planning and execution of rail obstructions
- Ensure all safeworking activities comply with RTIO Operating Rules and Procedures
- Conduct in-field audits, inspections, and compliance checks
- Manage and monitor contract partner performance and delivery standards
- Contribute to and drive a strong safety culture and continuous improvement
- Coach, mentor, and train safeworking personnel ( M1 – M5)
- Act as a recognised On-Job Trainer (OJT), including logbook sign-off
- Provide in-field guidance on the application of RTIO rules and procedures
- Identify, address, and escalate non-compliance issues
- Support development of Site Safety Management Plans with stakeholders
- Experience in Rio Tinto rail safeworking / Protection Officer roles (M5 required)
- Strong understanding of RTIO Operating Rules, procedures, and safety legislation
- Demonstrated leadership and ability to coach and influence teams
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders and contractors
- High level of professionalism and confidentiality
- Willingness to work flexible shifts (day, night, mid) to support 24/7 operations
- Manual C Class Driver’s Licence (mandatory)
- Residential (Dampier / Karratha): 12 days on, 9 days off roster
- Pay rate:$60 – $64 per hour
- Aligned to M5 Protection Officer Level 1–2 classification
