About the Role

BASF is seeking a Laboratory Technician / Technical Services Officer to support product development, technical services, and quality management. You will perform laboratory testing, analyse results, prepare technical reports, and ensure safe and efficient laboratory operations while working closely with internal teams and customers.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong scientific background who enjoys laboratory work, problem-solving, and collaborating across technical and commercial teams.



Key Responsibilities

Product Development & Technical Support
  • Execute agreed product development projects, technical service activities, and quality management initiatives.
  • Conduct product application testing to a high standard of scientific accuracy and validity.
  • Analyse test results and provide technical recommendations.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports for internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Support investigations into customer technical enquiries and product complaints in collaboration with the Sales team.
  • Recommend next steps for product development and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist laboratory colleagues across multiple technical projects as required.
Laboratory Operations
  • Ensure the safe operation of the laboratory, including safety inductions for visitors.
  • Maintain compliance with BASF Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) procedures and laboratory standards.
  • Support continuous improvement of laboratory systems, processes, and procedures.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure testing activities are completed in accordance with established procedures.
Quality Management
  • Coordinate product sampling from third-party suppliers for quality testing and customer requests.
  • Perform quality control testing and accurately record, analyse, and communicate results.
  • Manage inventory records, product shelf-life testing, and product evaluations using SAP.
  • Support bulk and packaged product biocide dosing where required.
  • Provide technical information relating to aged, damaged, or non-conforming stock.
  • Liaise with Planning, Customer Service, and Business teams regarding inventory and supply-related quality issues.


Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Formulation Science, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Alternatively, a minimum of 2 years' laboratory experience in a chemical or industrial environment.
  • Experience working within laboratory safety and quality management systems.
  • Exposure to product testing, formulation, quality control, or technical services is highly regarded.
  • Experience using SAP or similar ERP systems is desirable.
Technical Skills
  • Knowledge of chemical handling and laboratory safety practices.
  • Strong analytical and laboratory testing skills.
  • Experience using laboratory equipment and scientific testing techniques.
  • Ability to accurately interpret and communicate technical data.
  • Strong written communication skills with experience preparing technical reports.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
