Senior Tax Accountant | SMSF & Business Clients | Public Practice

Outer East Melbourne location

A well-established boutique accounting practice in Melbourne's outer-east is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to join its growing team.

This opportunity would suit a capable and self-motivated professional with 5–10+ years of public practice experience who enjoys managing client relationships, working autonomously, and providing high-quality taxation, compliance and SMSF services.

The successful candidate will inherit a stable portfolio of loyal clients and work within a supportive, professional environment that values initiative, technical expertise and client service.
The Opportunity Working directly with senior leadership, your responsibilities will include:
  • Preparation of Financial Statements and Income Tax Returns for Individuals, Companies, Trusts and Partnerships.
  • Preparation and administration of Self-Managed Superannuation Funds (SMSFs).
  • Tax planning and compliance work across a diverse client base.
  • Preparation and lodgement of BAS and IAS.
  • Review and reconciliation of client accounting records.
  • ASIC compliance and annual company administration.
  • Client liaison and management of day-to-day accounting and taxation queries.
  • Preparation of year-end workpapers and supporting documentation.
  • Working with HandiTax and associated public practice systems.
About You To be considered for this position, you will ideally possess:
  • 5–10+ years' experience within an Australian Public Practice accounting firm.
  • Strong technical taxation knowledge across business entities and individuals.
  • Experience preparing and managing superannuation accounts and compliance obligations.
  • Previous experience using HandiTax/Handisoft (highly desirable).
  • Strong understanding of Australian tax legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own workflow.
  • Excellent communication and client relationship management skills.
  • High attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • CPA or CA qualification (completed or nearing completion) will be highly regarded
