The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded lawyer to join a collaborative in-house legal team supporting a national business with a significant property portfolio and diverse commercial operations. This position combines property and leasing expertise with a growing focus on commercial and procurement contracts.
We're seeking a Senior Associate-level lawyer with 5 years' PQE who enjoys partnering with the business, solving commercial problems, and providing practical legal advice that supports business outcomes.
While property remains an important component of the role, a significant focus will be on reviewing, negotiating and advising on commercial, procurement, supplier and services agreements across the organisation.
This is a genuine opportunity to move beyond pure property work and develop a broad in-house legal skillset while working closely with stakeholders across Property, Facilities, Procurement, Operations and Corporate Services.
Key Responsibilities
Property & Leasing
- Provide legal support across a national commercial leasing portfolio.
- Draft, review and negotiate:
- Agreements for Lease
- Commercial leases
- Lease renewals and variations
- Licence agreements and occupancy arrangements
- Advise stakeholders on lease interpretation, obligations and risk.
- Support property-related transactions and projects.
- Manage and instruct external legal advisers where required.
- Draft, review and negotiate:
- Procurement agreements
- Supplier contracts
- Services agreements
- Commercial contracts
- Confidentiality agreements (NDAs)
- Facilities and operational contracts
- Partner closely with Procurement and business stakeholders to support commercial initiatives.
- Identify and manage contractual and commercial risk.
- Provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice that enables business objectives.
- Assist with the development and improvement of contract templates, processes and governance frameworks.
- Advise on general commercial and corporate legal matters.
- Support acquisitions, disposals and strategic business projects.
- Assist with dispute resolution and claims management.
- Contribute to legal compliance, governance and risk management initiatives.
You are a practical and commercially aware lawyer who enjoys building relationships and becoming a trusted adviser to the business.
You'll bring:
- Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent).
- Current Australian practising certificate.
- Approximately 5 years' post-qualification experience.
- Strong experience in property law, leasing and commercial contracting.
- Experience reviewing and negotiating procurement, supplier and services agreements.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong commercial judgement and a solutions-focused mindset.
- The ability to balance legal risk with business objectives.
- Experience gained within a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal environment.
