We are currently looking to bring in a Senior Adobe Commerce Engineer to support and evolve a large-scale ecommerce platform at AGL. This is a contract role in Melbourne CBD in a hybrid working environment. While strong hands-on engineering capability is essential, this role sits at the intersection of technology, product, and commercial delivery. You’ll play a key role in shaping ecommerce experiences, influencing decisions early, and partnering closely with stakeholders across the business.
The Opportunity
You’ll join a fast-paced digital environment where multiple ecommerce initiatives are running concurrently. The role requires someone who can go beyond implementation—bringing strong product thinking, challenging assumptions, and helping translate business opportunities into scalable technical solutions.
You’ll work closely with Product, GTM, delivery leads, and engineering teams, contributing across both BAU delivery and ongoing platform evolution.
What You’ll Be Doing
Product & Solution Delivery
• Partner with Product Managers and GTM teams to shape ecommerce initiatives from concept to delivery
• Translate business and customer requirements into scalable Adobe Commerce solutions
• Provide early technical input on feasibility, risks, and dependencies
• Challenge unclear requirements and identify gaps before build
• Contribute to solution design across:
o Customer acquisition journeys
o Promotions and campaign mechanics
o Pricing and offer implementation
o Checkout and conversion optimisation
Engineering Delivery
• Design and build custom functionality within Adobe Commerce (Magento)
• Deliver high-quality, maintainable, and secure code
• Support both BAU and strategic platform enhancements
• Troubleshoot complex production issues and performance bottlenecks
Platform & Integrations
• Work across integrations with enterprise systems (billing, identity, APIs, Adobe ecosystem)
• Support API design, authentication, queues, caching, and reliability
• Improve platform performance, resilience, and operational stability
Delivery & Collaboration
• Contribute to agile ceremonies (planning, refinement, releases)
• Operate effectively across multiple concurrent initiatives
• Communicate risks, dependencies, and trade-offs clearly
• Take ownership of outcomes rather than working to rigid direction
What We’re Looking For
Essential
• Strong hands-on experience with Adobe Commerce / Magento
• Expertise in PHP 8+, custom modules, plugins, service contracts
• Experience with GraphQL/REST APIs and system integrations
• Strong understanding of performance, caching, and asynchronous processing
• Experience working in enterprise, fast-paced delivery environments
What Sets You Apart
• Ability to think beyond code and understand commercial/product objectives
• Experience shaping solutions—not just delivering against requirements
• Strong stakeholder engagement across product, business, and tech teams
• Confidence working in ambiguity and proactively driving outcomes
Nice to Have
• Adobe ecosystem experience (AEM, Experience Cloud)
• Observability tools (e.g. Splunk)
• Cloud-hosted Adobe Commerce
• Ecommerce experimentation / CRO exposure
