We are currently partnering with a major contractor delivering a large-scale electrical infrastructure project in Melbourne, focused on the installation and commissioning of substation and switchyard works across high-voltage (HV) systems.
This is a hands-on, site-based opportunity suited to an experienced Qualified Electrician or HV Technician who has worked within substation or switchyard environments and has exposure to QA/QC processes.
You will be embedded within the construction and commissioning teams, playing a key role in ensuring works are completed to specification, compliant with standards, and supported by accurate quality documentation.
The Role
Working on a live infrastructure project, you will be responsible for supporting both field QA/QC activities and commissioning delivery, including:
- Conducting on-site inspections to verify electrical installations align with drawings, specifications, and standards
- Supporting and witnessing testing and commissioning of HV electrical systems
- Managing and completing quality documentation,
including:
- Inspection Test Records (ITRs)
- Test sheets and commissioning documentation
- Defect identification and close-out - Raising and managing non-conformance reports (NCRs) and ensuring corrective actions are completed
- Coordinating with site supervisors, subcontractors, engineers, and commissioning teams
- Assisting with handover documentation and quality packs to support project completion
To be successful in this role, you will bring a strong combination of trade, technical, and site-based experience, including:
- Licenced Qualified Electrician (essential)
- Demonstrated experience working on:
- Substations and/or switchyards - Strong exposure to:
- High Voltage (HV) systems — minimum 33kV (higher preferred) - Practical background in:
- Commissioning, testing, or installation of HV electrical systems - Experience working within project environments (construction or commissioning phases)
- Exposure to QA/QC processes, including:
- Inspections
- ITRs
- Defect/NCR management - Experience within transmission or distribution infrastructure projects
This role is best suited to trade-qualified electricians or HV technicians with substation or switchyard experience who are comfortable working in a hands-on, site-based environment. It is not suited to candidates from a pure QA/QC or engineering-only background without practical, on-site electrical experience.
Why Apply?
- Opportunity to work on a major electrical infrastructure project in Melbourne
- Strong pipeline of substation and HV works
- Step into a hybrid role combining commissioning and QA/QC responsibilities
- Be part of a fast-paced, high-impact project environment
- Competitive day rate with potential for extension beyond initial Contract term
If you have experience across HV substations, switchyards, and commissioning, and are looking for your next challenge in a hands-on site role, we’d love to hear from you.
