Job Overview
This self-motivated and internal customer-focused role provides technical support and identifies process improvement opportunities to the paper manufacturing team. The role includes direct line management responsibilities to ensure the efficient operation and technical performance of the site wastewater treatment plant. The position supports site quality, environmental and safety management systems and participates in continuous improvement teams aimed at improving site performance. The role includes site-specific project-based work and operational coverage across wastewater treatment, stock preparation and paper machine operations.

Primary initial focus: Wastewater Treatment Plant
Over time, the role is expected to develop into a broader site Process Engineering function providing wider
operational support.
Success is measured by achievement of quality, financial, safety and operational KPIs through
active participation in site initiatives.


Role Purpose & Key Responsibilities
Provide technical support to paper manufacturing operations.
Provide technical and operational direction for the site wastewater treatment plant.
Plan, run and analyse process and quality improvement trials.
Identify improvement opportunities and implement solutions to improve site performance.
Participate in site continuous improvement teams.
Develop multi-skilling capability to act as operational backup for leave and absentee coverage.


Key Aspects of the Role
Monitor wastewater treatment and manufacturing processes with strong focus on quality and output.
Analyse large volumes of process data using site computer systems to support fast, effective
decision-making.
Assist with the development of manufacturing procedures to improve systemisation and consistency.
Monitor, analyse and report KPIs.
Identify and deliver process improvements and project benefits.
Work cross-functionally to solve complex operational problems.
Coordinate and execute process and quality improvement trials.


OHS&E;, Safety and Environment
Participate in safety and environmental improvement initiatives.
Apply and promote safety-conscious work practices.
Ensure adherence to site safety and environmental management systems.
Monitor behaviour and intervene where unsafe practices are identified.
Ensure incidents and near misses are reported, investigated and corrective actions implemented.
Maintain acceptable housekeeping standards in work areas.


Process Control, Quality & Continuous Improvement
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Analyse deviations from key process KPIs and lead corrective actions.
Utilise Valmet DNA, Wedge and other business systems to analyse process stability and lead
troubleshooting activities.
Understand and monitor wastewater quality testing outputs and link results to process conditions.
Provide operational guidance for wastewater treatment plant performance under direction of external
contractors.
Ensure all trial results are analysed, documented and reported.


Leadership, Learning and Capability Development
Provide leadership support to the B9 team in line with World Class Manufacturing principles.
Mentor and support development of other team members.
Contribute to capability development to achieve sustainable high performance.


Major Challenges
Manage and coordinate across internal and external stakeholders, contractors and suppliers.
Develop supervisory capability through supplier and contractor coordination responsibilities.

Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent
Minimum 5 years wastewater treatment plant experience, including aerobic and anaerobic treatment
processes.
Prior paper manufacturing experience highly regarded.


Key Skills & Attributes
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
High level data analysis capability.
Strong computer literacy.
Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Highly organised with sound decision-making ability.
