Chandler Macleod is seeking an experienced Principal Mechanical Discipline Engineer to support a portfolio of major Iron Ore Asset Projects. This is a 12-month maternity leave contract based in Perth, offering exposure to multiple high-value projects across key materials handling and piping systems.
Working within a collaborative project environment, you will provide technical leadership, assurance, and design oversight across a range of mechanical engineering deliverables.
Project Scope You will contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects including:
Materials Handling Systems:
- Conveyors
- Crushers & screening systems
- Train load-out systems
- Car dumpers
- Water and dewatering systems
- Tailings infrastructure
- Provide discipline leadership and technical assurance across mechanical design packages
- Review and approve engineering deliverables from external consultants (e.g. GHD, Auricon)
- Ensure compliance with BHP engineering standards and project frameworks
- Engage with stakeholders across client, EPCM, and design house environments
- Support project delivery across multiple concurrent workstreams
- Identify and mitigate engineering risks while maintaining quality outcomes
You are a senior mechanical engineering professional with a strong background in mining projects and a passion for technical excellence.
To succeed, you will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 10+ years’ experience in a similar discipline role within a projects environment
- Strong experience across client-side and EPCM project delivery
- Proven capability in design review, technical governance, and assurance
- Prior exposure to BHP project frameworks and iron ore operations
- Ability to work across multiple stakeholders and manage competing priorities
- Chartered Professional Engineer (Mechanical) or working towards
- Background in design consultancies / engineering houses
- Competitive hourly rate with long-term project exposure
- Flexible hybrid working (1–2 days WFH)
