Our client is seeking a highly capable Principal Electrical Standards Engineer to lead the development and continuous improvement of electrical and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) standards, specifications, and design guidelines that support a critical road transport network.
About the Role
As the Principal Electrical Standards Engineer, you will be the technical authority responsible for ensuring electrical and ITS assets are designed, delivered, and maintained in accordance with relevant legislation, industry standards, and organisational requirements. Working within a specialist asset management environment, you will provide expert engineering advice, lead innovation initiatives, influence future technology adoption, and represent the organisation at state and national technical forums.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and maintain electrical and ITS standards, specifications, and design guidelines.
- Provide specialist technical advice regarding electrical infrastructure and ITS solutions.
- Support the planning, design, delivery, and operation of electrical and transport technology assets.
- Lead continuous improvement, innovation, and technology enhancement initiatives.
- Manage financial, technological, physical and human resources to achieve organisational outcomes.
- Support the development, performance and capability of engineering staff.
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, local government, consultants, contractors and industry representatives.
- Represent the organisation in technical working groups and industry forums.
Essential Requirements
- Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or Systems Engineering.
- Extensive experience in electrical design, engineering standards, and the preparation of electrical and ITS specifications.
- Strong knowledge and practical application of Intelligent Transport Systems and associated technologies.
- Demonstrated experience managing resources, budgets, and technical teams.
- Proven leadership capability with experience managing employee performance and professional development.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, negotiation and facilitation skills.
- Experience working across diverse technical and stakeholder groups.
- Knowledge of occupational safety requirements relating to electrical infrastructure.
- Understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion principles in the workplace.
