Pay Rate
- $55 – $72 per hour (depending on roster, shifts, and applicable penalties)
- Day shift only rosters or combinations of day and night shifts
- Variety of rosters including lifestyle and rotating patterns

About the Role
As a Mechanical Fitter, you will play a key role in maintaining plant reliability and performance. This hands-on role involves monitoring asset condition, responding to breakdowns, identifying defects, and supporting preventative and corrective maintenance strategies.
Key responsibilities include:
- Carrying out mechanical maintenance, repairs, and fault finding across site assets
- Responding to breakdowns efficiently to minimise downtime
- Performing preventative and planned maintenance tasks
- Monitoring equipment condition using inspection, sampling, and testing techniques
- Identifying and escalating defects in line with site processes
- Recording asset performance data to support maintenance planning
- Working within standard procedures while applying practical judgement
- Supporting team members and contributing to a strong safety culture
- Ensuring compliance with Rio Tinto safety systems and permit requirements
You are a trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter with strong troubleshooting capability and experience in heavy industrial environments. You thrive under pressure and are committed to safety, quality, and teamwork.
To be successful, you will have:
- Certificate III in Mechanical Fitting or Fitter & Turner
- Proven experience in fixed-plant maintenance and breakdown response
- Strong fault-finding skills across pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, valves, and motors
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings
- Experience in mining, alumina, refinery, or heavy manufacturing (preferred)
- Ability to work rotating rosters (including Lifestyle Roster 12 where required)
- White Card (essential)
- Strong communication skills and team focus
- Site ready or able to complete inductions and medicals promptly
- Forklift (LF)
- Rigging (RB) or Dogging (DG)
- Working at Heights (within 2 years)
- Confined Space & Gas Test Atmospheres
