Principal Lawyer / Legal Counsel (5.5 Week Contract)
Melbourne | $100-$130 per hour + super

We are seeking an experienced Principal Lawyer / Legal Counsel for a short-term 5.5-week coverage  with a Victorian Government organisation.
This role will provide high-level legal advice and support across a broad range of commercial, governance, compliance and operational matters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide trusted legal advice to executives and senior stakeholders.
  • Draft, review and negotiate a range of commercial agreements, including contracts, licences, MOUs and deeds.
  • Support governance, compliance and legislative accountability requirements.
  • Manage legal matters, disputes and case management activities.
  • Develop and implement legal policies, processes and frameworks.
  • Conduct legal research and provide strategic advice on emerging legal issues.
  • Ensure alignment with Victorian Government policies, procurement requirements and statutory obligations.
About You
  • Qualified Australian lawyer with substantial post-admission experience.
  • Strong background in commercial law, contracting and dispute resolution.
  • Proven experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
  • Sound knowledge of Victorian Government procurement frameworks and processes.
  • Strong understanding of intellectual property, privacy and data protection legislation.
  • Experience providing executive-level legal advice in a government, statutory authority or highly regulated environment.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters with discretion.
