Our client, Rio Tinto, is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join their site-based team in Port Hedland. This is an excellent opportunity for a safety professional with strong operational experience to support safety performance, risk management, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives across a large-scale mining environment.
About the Role
Working closely with site leaders, frontline teams and contractors, you will provide practical health and safety support, coaching and guidance to help drive a strong safety culture and improve critical control effectiveness.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting Safety Maturity improvement initiatives and assessments.
- Facilitating risk assessments and risk reduction activities.
- Coaching leaders and frontline teams on Critical Risk Management (CRM) and safe work practices.
- Supporting Health & Safety Representatives through mentoring and development.
- Conducting and assisting with incident investigations, reporting and action management.
- Supporting assurance programs, audits and verification activities.
- Analysing safety performance data and providing insights for continuous improvement.
- Participating in Health & Safety working groups and cross-functional improvement initiatives.
- Supporting psychosocial risk management and health promotion programs.
To be successful, you will have:
- Previous experience as a Health & Safety Advisor within mining, civil construction, heavy industry or production environments.
- Extensive experience supporting large-scale civil and/or production projects.
- Exposure to operations with 50+ pieces of mobile plant.
- Strong experience in risk assessments, incident investigations and assurance processes.
- Previous experience working with Rio Tinto is highly desirable.
- Experience using Enablon, Forwood and SafeDay.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer literacy and confidence preparing incident reports, event investigations and safety documentation.
- Sound knowledge of health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and coach at all levels.
