Overview

We’re seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to support a major heavy industrial operation in the Lower Hunter region. This is a hands-on site-based leadership role where you’ll be embedded with operations, driving safety performance, risk reduction, and frontline leadership capability.

This is a short-term contract opportunity (3–6 months) running alongside a permanent recruitment process currently underway for the same function. Some candidates previously identified for the permanent role are already in early stages of AGL’s selection process.

The Role

You’ll take ownership of site-based H&S delivery, working closely with operational leaders and a small safety team to strengthen safety culture and ensure effective risk management across a high-risk industrial environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and mentoring a small H&S team
  • Partnering with operational leaders to improve safety performance on site
  • Driving risk management processes, including critical controls and risk assessments
  • Supporting incident investigations and root cause analysis
  • Identifying trends and improving safety systems and behaviours
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant H&S legislation and standards
  • Supporting contractor safety management and assurance activities
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of site safety systems and programs
About You

You’ll bring strong operational safety leadership experience in high-risk environments such as energy, mining, oil & gas, or heavy industry.

You will likely have:

  • 5+ years’ experience in H&S leadership roles
  • Experience working directly with operational teams on site
  • Strong capability in incident investigation and risk management
  • Confidence influencing senior leaders and frontline teams
  • Experience managing or mentoring safety professionals
  • Strong understanding of WHS legislation and compliance requirements
What’s on Offer

  • ~$650/day + super
  • Site-based role in the Lower Hunter region
  • 3–6 month contract assignment
  • Opportunity to work in a complex, high-risk industrial environment
  • Strong operational leadership exposure and impact
