An exciting opportunity is available for a Traffic Engineer to join a progressive local government organisation dedicated to improving road safety, traffic efficiency and active transport outcomes across the City.
In this role, you will be responsible for the planning, assessment and delivery of traffic and transport solutions that support the safe and efficient movement of pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles within the City’s road network. You will provide expert technical advice, analyse traffic data, and work closely with internal stakeholders, elected representatives and the local community to deliver practical, compliant and community‑focused outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Traffic Management & Road Safety
Assess, design and implement traffic management initiatives to improve traffic flow, parking operations and road safety in line with legislative and regulatory requirements. - Traffic & Parking Analysis
Collect, analyse and interpret traffic, parking and crash data to identify issues, trends and opportunities, and develop evidence‑based recommendations. - Transport & Traffic Projects
Support the delivery of traffic and transport projects including traffic calming treatments, pedestrian and cycling improvements, and local area traffic management schemes. - Stakeholder Engagement
Provide clear, professional advice to internal stakeholders, residents, business owners, developers and consultants, balancing technical requirements with community needs. - Local Traffic Committee Support
Prepare technical reports and provide specialist advice to support the City’s Local Pedestrian, Cycling and Traffic Calming Committee, ensuring informed and effective decision‑making.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have a strong technical background in traffic engineering combined with excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
You will bring:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Relevant experience in traffic engineering, transport planning or a similar role
- Demonstrated ability to resolve complex traffic and transport‑related issues
- Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting traffic and safety data
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Sound project management and organisational skills
- A current Class C Driver’s Licence
