VPS 6.1 | 12-Month Contract | Melbourne CBD
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Commercial Manager to join a major Victorian State Government technology program.
This role will lead complex ICT procurement, sourcing and commercial activities across a significant technology portfolio, providing commercial leadership that supports the delivery of critical digital platforms and services. Working closely with executives, project teams and external vendors, you will drive procurement outcomes, contract negotiations and commercial strategies that enable successful program delivery.
The Opportunity
As the Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for leading end-to-end procurement and commercial activities across large-scale technology initiatives. You will combine strategic commercial thinking with hands-on delivery, ensuring sourcing activities, contracts and vendor engagements are managed effectively and aligned with government procurement frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead ICT procurement and sourcing activities across complex technology programs.
- Develop and manage procurement strategies, tender processes and commercial documentation.
- Provide commercial advice and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Drive vendor and contract management activities to support successful program delivery.
- Lead market analysis and supplier engagement activities.
- Manage procurement pipelines, reporting and governance requirements.
- Negotiate commercial outcomes that deliver value for money and minimise risk.
- Build strong relationships across business, project and executive stakeholders.
You are a commercially astute leader with extensive experience managing procurement and vendor engagements within large and complex technology environments.
You will bring:
- 8–10+ years' experience in commercial management, ICT procurement, strategic sourcing or a related field.
- Proven experience managing large-scale technology, software and services procurements.
- Strong contract negotiation, vendor management and commercial analysis capabilities.
- Experience leading teams while remaining hands-on in delivery.
- Strong understanding of procurement governance and contract management frameworks.
- The ability to provide strategic commercial advice and influence senior stakeholders.
- Exceptional communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Relevant qualifications in business, commerce, procurement, law or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
