About the role:
Brief paragraph about the role
We are seeking a reliable and motivated Workshop Trades Assistant to support maintenance and operational activities across workshop and site environments. This role involves assisting skilled tradespeople including Mechanical Fitters/Machinists with a variety of maintenance and repair tasks within a water utility environment.
 
What the role will involve:
  • Perform scheduled maintenance on corporation assets under direction.
  • Follow established work instructions, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Assist in workshop and onsite activities including: 
  • Operation of workshop machinery (basic level)
    • Interpretation of technical drawings (basic level)
    • Pipeline inspections and recording of data
       
    • Assembly and dismantling of mechanical components
       
    • Operation of cutting, shaping, and pressing tools
       
    • Transport of tools, materials, and equipment
    • Surface preparation and general workshop housekeeping
  • Sandblasting and application of protective coatings (where required)
  • Utilize specialist tools, plant, and equipment as required.
  • Assist with fault finding and participate in standby/on-call rosters when needed.
  • Support onsite safe job planning activities.
  • Work collaboratively with tradespeople and operators to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Follow guidance and direction from experienced personnel.
     
Key skills and experience:
Essential
  • Experience working in a workshop environment (fabrication, welding, fitting, or machining).
     
  • Experience assisting trades such as Boilermakers, Welders, Mechanical Fitters, or Machinists.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with tools and equipment.
     
Desirable
  • Relevant High Risk Work Licences (e.g., forklift, dogging, rigging, etc.).
  • Experience within utilities or water infrastructure environments.
