We are seeking an experienced Statutory Planner to provide immediate support to a busy local government planning team.
This is a contract role suited to someone who can hit the ground running and confidently manage statutory planning matters in line with relevant legislation and planning schemes.
Reporting to the Team Leader Statutory Planning, you’ll assist with the assessment and processing of planning applications, provide clear advice to internal and external stakeholders, and contribute to timely, high‑quality planning outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and process planning permit applications and amendments
- Prepare clear, well‑reasoned reports, permit conditions and recommendations
- Undertake site inspections and investigations relating to applications, appeals and permit compliance
- Respond to general planning enquiries from the public, applicants and stakeholders
- Prepare and present submissions to VCAT as required
- Work collaboratively with the planning team to meet statutory timeframes and service standards
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for allocated matters
- A degree in Urban and Regional Planning (or equivalent)
- Sound knowledge of the Planning and Environment Act and planning schemes
- Working knowledge of related legislation (Subdivision Act, Liquor Control Act, Local Government Act, Gaming Control Act)
- Strong written, verbal and analytical skills
- Ability to conduct site inspections and manage competing priorities
- Experience in local government planning (highly regarded)
