An established engineering consulting firm is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join its Temporary Works team. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex, construction-led projects while providing technical leadership and practical engineering solutions that directly influence site delivery.
About the Role
As a Senior Structural Engineer in the Temporary Works team, you will lead the design, checking, and delivery of safe and efficient temporary works solutions across major infrastructure and building projects. You will work closely with construction teams, contractors, and permanent works designers to support live projects from concept through to site implementation.
This role suits an engineer who enjoys problem-solving in fast-paced environments and thrives on seeing designs built on site.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and verification of temporary works structures, including:
- Formwork and falsework
- Propping and shoring systems
- Excavation support and retention systems
- Crane bases, lifting frames, and temporary platforms
- Temporary access structures and staging
- Produce engineering calculations, drawings, and technical reports
- Review construction methodologies and provide engineering input to sequencing and buildability
- Undertake design checking, verification, and risk assessments
- Provide technical support during construction, including site inspections and RFI responses
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and internal multidisciplinary teams
- Mentor and support junior engineers within the team
About You
- Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering
- 7+ years’ experience in structural engineering, with strong exposure to temporary works design
- Experience working within an engineering consultancy or contractor-led environment
- Strong understanding of structural behaviour, construction methods, and safety-in-design
- Confident communicator with the ability to work directly with site teams
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) is highly regarded
