Rate:$72.73 – $74.98 per hour + super
Contract: ASAP start through to July 2026, with potential 6‑month extension
We are seeking an experienced Senior Finance Business Partner to join a Finance Branch within a large local government organisation. This is a long‑term contract role requiring strong executive‑level business partnering, confidence working directly with senior leaders, and the ability to deliver clear, high‑quality financial insights to support strategic decision‑making.
This role is well suited to a finance professional who understands the purpose of a Senior Finance Business Partner within a local government environment and can balance strong technical capability with stakeholder advisory responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner directly with executive leaders and business units to provide high‑level financial advice and insight
- Contribute to the development of annual budgets, long‑term financial plans, forecasts, and budget controls
- Prepare, analyse and interpret monthly management reports and quarterly Council reports
- Support commercial decision‑making through strong financial modelling and analysis
- Assist with the preparation of annual financial statements and the external audit process
- Provide system and technical accounting support, including guidance on TechnologyOne(or similar systems)
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and ensure month‑end reporting requirements are met
- Contribute to service improvement initiatives and continuous improvement across Finance
- Demonstrated experience as a Senior Finance Business Partner or similar role
- Proven capability providing advice and presenting financial insights to executive and senior leaders
- Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills
- Strong understanding of management accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting
- Experience working in a local government or similarly complex public‑sector environment(highly regarded)
- Ability to manage competing priorities and operate in an environment with tight timeframes
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or Business
- CA or CPA qualification (or equivalent)
- Experience using TechnologyOne or comparable enterprise financial systems
