Chandler Macleod are partnering with Rio Tinto to recruit an experienced Process Engineer to support operations at their Weipa site. This is a time critical contract opportunity due to a planned transition within the team and will suit candidates available at short notice.
About the role
You will work closely with operations, maintenance and technical teams to drive safe, efficient and reliable plant performance. Ideally, you will be open to working a 9 day fortnight roster with onsite camp accommodation, with flexible or hybrid arrangements considered for the right candidate, including a mix of onsite and work from home across the fortnight.
Key responsibilities
- Participate in daily process operations, analysing process data and reviewing data collection to determine optimal operating conditions
- Work within an integrated operational team to improve control systems, prioritise maintenance and support planned activities aligned with the bauxite supply chain
- Maintain a strong field presence, coaching operations teams on critical plant processes while setting and upholding operating standards
- Identify, support and implement process improvement initiatives to debottleneck plant constraints
- Lead and contribute to cost reduction and transformation initiatives to support site performance targets
- Complete daily, weekly and monthly reporting and reconciliation activities
- Promote accountability through participation in weekly production meetings
- Provide guidance and mentoring to vacation students and graduates
What you will bring
- A Chemical Process Engineering degree with proven experience in a production driven or operational environment
- A demonstrated commitment to safety and the ability to lead by example
- Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to engage effectively across operations and technical teams
- Demonstrated problem solving capability, including exposure to Lean / Six Sigma methodologies
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret process data and develop practical solutions
- Well developed report writing skills and proficiency in the MS Office suite
- Experience using FactoryTalk and a sound understanding of process control systems
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts in clear, practical terms
- Metallurgical Engineering degree (beneficial but not essential)
