Senior Planner – Development Assessment
Location: Melton
Rate:$69 per hour + super
Contract: ASAP start – 4 September
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (minimum 3 days in the office)

An opportunity is available for an experienced Senior Planner to join a busy local government planning team in Melton on a short‑term contract.
This role will suit a confident planner who enjoys working on complex applications, supporting quality development outcomes and mentoring junior team members.

About the Role
You will be responsible for the assessment and processing of planning permit applications within a high‑growth area.
Working closely with applicants, consultants and internal teams, you will provide clear, practical planning advice while ensuring statutory timeframes and legislative requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and process planning permit applications, including complex developments
  • Provide technical planning advice to applicants, consultants and the broader community
  • Respond to customer enquiries via phone, email and counter service
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate appropriate development outcomes
  • Support and assist in the mentoring of junior planners
  • Contribute to consistent decision‑making and continuous improvement initiatives
Skills & Experience
  • Minimum 5–10 years’ experience working within Local Government Planning
  • Strong experience in statutory planning and development assessment
  • Growth Area planning experience highly regarded
  • Sound knowledge of the Victorian planning system and local planning schemes
  • Strong customer service skills, including counter and phone enquiries
  • Well‑developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Confident computer skills and experience using planning systems and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet statutory deadlines
