Chandler Macleod is recruiting a Mechanical Reliability Engineer on behalf of a large Australian manufacturer based in Port Kembla. This is a permanent opportunity within a heavy industrial environment, offering long term stability and the chance to drive asset reliability, safety, and continuous improvement across critical plant operations.
About the Role Reporting to the Asset Manager, you will be responsible for improving plant availability, reliability, and performance at optimum cost. You will work closely with Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering teams to lead reliability strategies, major shutdowns, CAPEX initiatives, and continuous improvement programs.
This role is highly hands on and requires a strong on site presence across a five day working week.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive mechanical asset reliability, availability, and lifecycle performance
- Lead root cause analysis, RCM, FMECA, and defect elimination activities
- Manage asset maintenance plans and plant performance KPIs
- Lead shutdowns, breakdown investigations, and major maintenance activities
- Develop detailed procedures, inspection plans, commissioning plans, and reports
- Identify, scope, and deliver CAPEX projects for safety, reliability, and cost reduction
- Ensure compliance with WHS, quality systems, and engineering standards
- Provide technical leadership and coaching to asset and reliability teams
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- Strong experience in reliability engineering within heavy industry or manufacturing
- Proven experience with RCA, RCM, FMECA, and asset management frameworks
- High level mechanical knowledge including hydraulics and pneumatics
- Experience with CMMS, asset maintenance planning, and cost control
- Confident communicator who can influence cross functional teams
- Comfortable working 5 days onsite in an operational plant environment
