This role will play a critical part in driving safety leadership, compliance, and workforce engagement across shutdown activities, working closely with the Shutdown Manager to ensure safe and efficient execution.
This position is ideally suited to an experienced HSE professional with a strong background in shutdowns or heavy industry who is confident operating in fast-paced environments and influencing large workforces.
About the Role
Reporting to the Shutdown Manager, the HSE Advisor will be responsible for managing and maintaining site and shutdown-specific HSE systems, facilitating risk assessments, and supporting safety processes across all areas of the shutdown.
You will play a key role in educating the shutdown workforce, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and driving continuous improvement across HSE performance.
Safety Leadership
- Provide visible safety leadership across all shutdown activities
- Coach and support supervisors and frontline personnel on safe work practices
- Drive workforce engagement and promote a proactive safety culture
- Support the education of shutdown personnel on site safety standards
HSE Systems & Compliance
- Manage updates and development of shutdown-specific HSE procedures and standards
- Ensure compliance with site safety requirements, HSE management plans and legislation
- Support supplier compliance with HSE management plan commitments
- Conduct audits and provide governance reporting on HSE performance
Risk & Incident Management
- Facilitate Level 2 risk assessments across all work areas
- Support incident management processes including reporting and corrective actions
- Provide guidance on fatigue management processes
- Assist in identifying hazards and implementing effective controls
Program & Process Management
- Manage and maintain the SLIP program from initiation through to implementation
- Support continuous improvement of safety systems and processes across shutdown activities
About You
- Proven experience in an HSE role within mining, manufacturing or heavy industry
- Previous shutdown experience highly regarded
- Strong understanding of risk assessments, incident management and safety systems
- Ability to influence, coach and engage a diverse workforce
- Strong organisational skills and ability to work in fast-paced environments
Qualifications & Requirements
- Relevant HSE qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Strong knowledge of site safety standards and legislative requirements
Roster & Duration
8-month contract with potential for ongoing work
9-day fortnight outside of execution
6:1 roster during shutdown execution (12.5-hour days)
This role is critical to the safe delivery of major shutdown works. You will play a key role in educating the workforce, driving compliance, and ensuring all activities are executed safely and efficiently.
