About the Role

A large public-sector organisation is seeking an experienced Environmental Sustainability Contractor to provide short-term specialist support during a period of organisational transition and permanent recruitment.
This role will play a critical part in progressing priority climate and sustainability initiatives, strengthening compliance and reporting, and delivering expert, practical advice to meet immediate organisational needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support delivery of priority sustainability and climate initiatives aligned with strategic objectives and government policy
  • Coordinate and contribute to climate-related compliance and reporting, including adaptation and transition planning and relevant disclosures
  • Undertake targeted climate risk and opportunity assessments, ensuring outputs are actionable and embedded in business planning
  • Provide timely, high-quality advice on sustainability, climate resilience and environmental performance
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to progress initiatives and ensure consistent implementation
  • Monitor emerging legislation, policy and best practice, translating requirements into practical recommendations
  • Deliver defined project outcomes, including planning, coordination, reporting and evaluation within agreed timeframes
  • Analyse data and track performance to support sustainability reporting and informed decision-making
Key Deliverables
  • Contribution to climate risk assessments and updates to risk registers
  • Progression of priority sustainability or climate projects (e.g. adaptation planning, emissions tracking, reporting inputs)
  • Support for regulatory and internal reporting requirements
  • Development of briefings, reports and frameworks to support executive decision-making
  • Practical recommendations to improve sustainability performance, compliance and data quality
Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience in environmental sustainability, climate risk or ESG roles, ideally within government, infrastructure or housing environments
  • Strong understanding of climate-related frameworks, policy and reporting requirements (e.g. TCFD-aligned approaches, public sector disclosures)
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality outcomes within short timeframes
  • Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience working with climate data, risk assessments and sustainability reporting
