About the role:

We are seeking experienced Environmental Specialists to lead environmental approvals and compliance outcomes across major water infrastructure projects. The role is heavily approvals‑focused and will work across planning, design, construction and operations to ensure environmental risks are identified early and managed in line with State and Commonwealth legislation.
This is a senior technical role requiring strong regulator engagement, sound judgement in complex delivery environments and the ability to influence project teams to embed environmental considerations into decision‑making.
 
What the role will involve:
  • Lead the development and implementation of environmental approvals strategies
  • Secure approvals under relevant WA and Commonwealth environmental legislation
  • Provide expert technical advice on environmental compliance, approvals pathways and documentation
  • Act as a QA/QC review gateway for approvals documentation and technical advice
  • Ensure environmental obligations are clearly communicated through asset handover into operations
  • Engage directly with regulators and key stakeholders (e.g. EPA, DWER, DBCA, DCCEEW)
  • Provide early‑stage environmental risk and options advice during asset planning and acquisition
  • Support policy, strategy, research and governance initiatives with expert environmental input
 
Key skills and experience: Desirable Experience
  • Degree qualified in an environmental or science based discipline 
  • Substantial experience managing environmental assessments and approvals 
  • Strong working knowledge of State and Commonwealth environmental legislation 
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with regulators, stakeholders and interest groups 
  • Experience in a large, complex infrastructure, utilities, commercial or regulatory environment  

Desirable Experience
  • Water, wastewater or utilities sector experience
  • Knowledge of Australian ecosystems relevant to water infrastructure
  • Environmental auditing or compliance systems experience
  • Experience with public consultation or multi‑objective environmental planning
