We are currently seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer for a temporary full-time contract opportunity within a progressive local government environment based in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

- Hours: Monday to Friday, 38 hours per week
- Pay Rate: $51.95 per hour + super
- Location: Melbourne – Western Suburbs
This role is a backfill position, supporting critical environmental health functions while an existing team member is on long service leave.
About the Role
Reporting to the Environmental Health leadership team, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality regulatory services and ensuring compliance with relevant health legislation.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting inspections of food premises and other regulated environments
- Enforcing relevant Acts, Regulations, and Codes of Practice
- Investigating complaints and resolving public and environmental health issues
- Preparing detailed inspection reports and compliance documentation
- Providing advice and education to businesses and the community
- Representing Council professionally in a range of enforcement and advisory interactions
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Proven experience in environmental health or regulatory compliance
- Strong knowledge of applicable legislation, including Food and Public Health regulations
- Excellent communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to interpret legislation and apply it in practical situations
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- High-level proficiency with computer-based systems and reporting tools
