Join a Leading Local Council as an Environmental Health Officer 

Are you passionate about protecting public health and ensuring safe environments? We are seeking a proactive and experienced Environmental Health Officer to join a reputable local council team on a temporary basis, supporting vital public health initiatives across our diverse community.

About the Role:

As an Environmental Health Officer, you will play a key role in inspecting food premises, conducting food sampling, and investigating food-related complaints to maintain high safety standards. You’ll also be responsible for inspecting public health and wellbeing (PHWB) premises, handling related complaints, and delivering education visits under the Tobacco Act. Your work helps create healthier, safer spaces for residents and visitors.

What You’ll Bring:
  • A Degree in Applied Science (Environmental Health) or equivalent
  • Experience in food safety inspections, complaint investigations, and public health compliance
  • Knowledge of the Food Act, Public Health & Wellbeing Act, and Tobacco Act
  • Strong communication skills—both oral and written
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation practically
  • Excellent organizational skills to prioritize and manage tasks efficiently
  • A team-oriented mindset and positive public relation approach
Nice to Have Skills:
  • Local government or public health experience
  • Familiarity with food sampling and inspection processes
  • Experience in education visits related to food or tobacco regulation
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience as an Environmental Health Officer
  • Ability to work independently and within deadlines
  • Valid police check and Australian work eligibility
  • Willingness to travel within the municipality for inspections

  • Duration: May 4, 2026 – October 29, 2026 
  • Pay Rate: $47.54 per hour
  • Dress code: Business casual
