Rate:$61 per hour + super
Contract: ASAP start – September 2026
The Role:
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Senior Development Planner to join a busy growth area local government on a long‑term contract through to September 2026.
This role will see you delivering efficient statutory and non‑statutory planning services, managing complex planning applications, and contributing to strategic initiatives that support sustainable development outcomes across a rapidly growing municipality.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and manage complex planning applications using a structured, project‑management approach
- Provide high‑level technical advice on planning legislation, policies and the planning scheme
- Prepare planning reports, correspondence, permit conditions and recommendations
- Represent Council at VCAT and other planning forums as required
- Work collaboratively with internal teams, developers, consultants and external authorities
- Contribute to strategic planning projects to support smoother development assessment processes
- Identify and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the planning function
- Minimum 5–10 years’ experience in local government planning
- Proven experience assessing complex development applications
- Strong understanding of the Victorian Planning System, including Planning Schemes, VPPs, PSPs and DCPs
- Growth area planning experience (highly desirable)
- Excellent written, verbal and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong time management skills with the ability to meet statutory timeframes
- Tertiary qualification in Urban Planning or a closely related discipline
- Demonstrated experience delivering high‑quality planning outcomes in a local government setting
