This role will support earthworks on dam structures within a red mud (bauxite residue) environment, working within a live operational refinery.
This position is ideally suited to an experienced Civil Supervisor or Construction Supervisor with strong earthworks and tailings experience, proven contractor management capability, and a focus on safety and delivery.
About the Role
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Construction Supervisor – Earthworks will coordinate and oversee site-based construction activities, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with HSE, cost, schedule, and quality requirements.
You will be responsible for supervising contractors and managing daily works across dam and earthworks scopes in a high-risk industrial environment.
Safety Leadership
- Demonstrate strong safety leadership across all site activities
- Ensure compliance with JHAs, risk assessments, and site safety systems
- Participate in daily pre-starts and safety interactions
- Monitor and enforce contractor safety compliance
- Identify and manage site risks in real time
Construction Delivery
- Coordinate earthworks crews, contractors, and resources
- Supervise daily site activities across dam and tailings works
- Ensure works are delivered in line with scope and specifications
- Manage contractor performance and productivity onsite
- Maintain quality standards across all construction activities
Scope, Schedule & Reporting
- Monitor progress against project timelines
- Manage variations and scope changes as required
- Liaise with operations and key site stakeholders
- Provide clear and accurate progress reporting
- Identify risks to schedule and escalate where required
Requirements
- Strong earthworks experience, specifically within dam or tailings environments
- Proven experience supervising contractors on industrial sites
- Solid understanding of JHAs, risk assessments, and safety processes
- Background in mining, refining, or heavy civil infrastructure
Highly Regarded
- Experience working in red mud / bauxite residue environments
- Previous experience with Rio Tinto, QAL, or similar refinery operations
Roster & Duration
- Winter: Monday to Friday, 12-hour days
- Summer: Monday to Thursday 11.5-hour days, Friday 10-hour days
- Saturday work available as required
- Initial 12-month contract with strong likelihood of extension
