We are seeking a motivated Conservation Officer to support the maintenance and enhancement of significant bushland and foreshore reserve areas across the municipality.
This role plays a hands‑on part in ensuring reserves are safe, well maintained, and presented to a high standard for the community.
Working under general supervision, you’ll be responsible for delivering allocated works efficiently and safely, with a strong focus on ecological outcomes and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake a broad range of bushland and foreshore maintenance and development works in line with agreed standards and procedures
- Complete programmed works and respond to reactive customer requests as directed by Crew Leaders
- Ensure bushland and foreshore areas are clean, safe, and welcoming
- Supervise and support “Friends of” groups, school groups, and community volunteers undertaking reserve works
- Apply ecological restoration principles and best‑practice work methods
- Promote and comply with OH&S and safe work practices at all times
- Work collaboratively with team members and share skills and knowledge
You will bring:
- Qualification and/or demonstrated experience in Conservation and Ecosystem Management
- Experience with ecological restoration, integrated weed control, revegetation, and minor landscaping works
- Strong native plant identification skills and understanding of Ecological Vegetation Classes
- Experience conducting Vegetation Quality Assessments
- Confidence supervising volunteers or assisting with community groups
- Ability to work independently while following direction and procedures
- Current Victorian Driver’s Licence
- Chemical Users Certificate / Herbicide Applicators Licence
- Chainsaw ticket (Level 1)
- Valid Right to Work in Australia
- Willingness to complete a National Police Check, Working with Children Check, and pre‑employment medical assessments
