Community & Planning Compliance Officer

6‑Month Casual Assignment | Hybrid Role | Euroa (3 office days per week)

We are seeking an experienced Community & Planning Compliance Officer to join a regional local government team on a 6‑month casual assignment. This is a hybrid role, working three days per week from the office in Euroa, with flexibility for remote work on remaining days.

This role plays a key part in maintaining a safe, compliant and well‑managed community environment through effective legislative enforcement, education and customer engagement.

About the Role Reporting to the Manager Community Safety, you will be responsible for administering and enforcing planning, local laws and compliance legislation. The role involves a mix of investigation, education and enforcement activities and requires sound judgement, strong communication skills and the ability to manage sensitive matters professionally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate complaints and alleged non‑compliance with planning permits, planning schemes and local laws
  • Administer and enforce relevant legislation, including issuing notices, infringement notices and enforcement orders
  • Conduct proactive and reactive site inspections
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, briefs of evidence and court documentation
  • Represent the organisation at VCAT and Magistrates’ Court as required
  • Provide advice and guidance to residents, ratepayers and stakeholders on compliance matters
  • Assist with animal management and enforcement activities, including domestic animal management and inspections
  • Promote voluntary compliance through education and professional engagement
  • Participate in an after‑hours on‑call program when required
About You You are a confident compliance professional with experience working in a regulatory or enforcement environment, ideally within local government. You are comfortable working autonomously, managing investigations and dealing with complex or sensitive situations.

Essential Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in planning or regulatory compliance and enforcement
  • Sound knowledge of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 and relevant legislation
  • Strong investigation, dispute resolution and report‑writing skills
  • Ability to prepare and present matters before VCAT and/or Magistrates’ Court
  • High‑level communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work after hours when required
  • Certificate IV in Government (Statutory Compliance) or substantial relevant experience
  • Certificate IV in Animal Management or demonstrated experience in domestic animal management
  • Current Victorian Driver Licence
  • Willingness to undergo a National Police Check
