An immediate short‑term opportunity is available for an experienced Communications Officer to support a busy communications team within a community‑focused organisation.
This hands‑on role suits someone who can step in quickly and deliver clear, accurate and engaging communications across media, digital and community channels.
About the Role
You will support the Communications and Engagement function to promote organisational services, activities and initiatives to the community. Working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, you will ensure communications are timely, accessible and aligned to organisational image and branding standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, write and edit articles for newsletters and publications
- Prepare speeches for senior leaders and representatives at civic and community events
- Draft media releases and respond to media enquiries within tight deadlines
- Manage and monitor social media channels, including responding to messages
- Maintain and update website content using a content management system
- Ensure digital content meets accessibility, privacy and statutory requirements
- Provide advice to staff on communications tools, processes and branding standards
- Support communications planning for projects, events and community activities
- Liaise with media, community groups and external organisations as required
- Respond professionally to enquiries from members of the public
- Tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations, marketing or journalism
- Demonstrated experience in a communications or media role
- Proven ability to write media releases, speeches and publications to deadline
- Experience managing website content and social media platforms
- Strong understanding of organisational image, branding and accessibility requirements
- Highly developed written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and content management systems (Adobe tools desirable)
