Technical Officer, Pavement Laboratories
Location: Bundoora East
Employment Type: Full-time, On-site
Hours: 36 hours per week
Contract Duration: ASAP – 30 June 2026
Salary:$62.48 per hour (inclusive of super)

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly capable, proactive, and self-directed Technical Officer to support the operations of the Pavement Laboratories within the Materials, Process, Civil & Infrastructure technical environment.
In this role, you will contribute directly to undergraduate teaching activities, HDR research support, and laboratory compliance, particularly in the area of asphalt and bitumen materials testing.
You will collaborate closely with academic staff, researchers, and students to ensure laboratory spaces operate safely, efficiently, and in line with institutional standards.

Key Responsibilities In this position, you will:

  • Support learning and teaching activities across pavement laboratories (Hot, Warm, Cold Asphalt and Bitumen).
  • Provide hands‑on technical assistance for research projects and HDR experimentation.
  • Manage laboratory equipment, including maintenance, servicing, and calibration schedules.
  • Oversee consumables, ordering, stock control, and general laboratory readiness.
  • Maintain accurate asset registers and equipment documentation.
  • Prepare, review and update compliance documentation (SOPs, ERAs, SWIs, risk assessments).
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of materials in line with regulatory and institutional requirements.
  • Contribute to improving laboratory processes, systems, and workflows.
About You You will bring:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering(essential).
  • Demonstrated experience in laboratory operations and equipment maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory safety and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience preparing technical documentation and risk assessments.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Experience in a university or research laboratory setting will be highly regarded.
