Bring your environmental chemistry expertise to a dynamic teaching and research environment. We’re seeking a skilled Technical Officer to support laboratory operations, field sampling, practical classes, and research activities that drive sustainable science.
About the Role
You’ll play a key role in managing Environmental Chemistry laboratories, supporting fieldwork, and ensuring safe, efficient technical operations. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in hands‑on environments and enjoys contributing to impactful scientific outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily lab operations, equipment maintenance, and safety compliance
- Conduct soil, groundwater, surface water & biosolids sampling and analysis
- Maintain SOPs, safety documentation, and staff/student training resources
- Support teaching and research activities, including experimental setup and data analysis
- Oversee chemical inventories, consumables, and waste management
- Ensure OH&S compliance across lab and field environments
- Operate analytical instruments (CN, FTIR, IC) and field equipment
- Experience in environmental chemistry/science with strong sampling & analysis skills
- Proficiency with analytical instruments and field monitoring equipment
- Strong understanding of OH&S and safe lab/field practices
- Highly organised, solution‑focused, and able to work independently or in teams
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Experience in higher education or research environments
- Knowledge of lab quality systems
- Familiarity with scientific data analysis and reporting
- Relevant safety or sampling certifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Environmental Science, Chemistry, or related field
- Hands‑on experience in environmental sampling or lab operations
- Valid driver’s licence (required for fieldwork)
- Contribute to meaningful environmental research and education
- Work with modern labs, specialised field equipment, and expert academics
