This is an initial 6 month contract opportunity, ideal for an undergraduate civil engineering student looking to gain hands‑on experience within a government infrastructure environment while completing their studies.
About the Role
In the role of Undergraduate Student Engineer (Civil), you will work under the supervision of senior engineering staff to support the delivery of road infrastructure and heavy vehicle permit outcomes.
This is a practical, learning‑focused role that will expose you to asset management, contract administration, and real‑world engineering decision‑making within a fast‑growing region.
Key Responsibilities
With appropriate supervision, your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in the delivery and administration of heavy vehicle permits for road infrastructure projects
- Supporting design, construction and maintenance activities across the road network
- Assisting with workflow assessments, route compliance and permit conditions
- Supporting road and bridge maintenance planning and activities
- Learning to calculate quantities, analyse materials test results and identify non‑conformances
- Assisting with risk assessments and quality management processes
- Supporting stakeholder coordination and communication across operational teams
What We’re Looking For
To be considered for this role, you will need:
- To be currently enrolled in your 2nd or 3rd year of a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) (Washington Accord accredited or equivalent)
- Ability to work part‑time (2–3 days per week during semester) and full‑time during university holidays
- A current Class C driver’s licence
- Full working rights in Australia
- Strong reliability, initiative and willingness to learn
- Ability to successfully undergo a criminal history check

Pay Rate:$32.11 – $47.35 per hour + super (dependent on age and experience)
Work Type: Casual / Temporary
Contract Dates: 11 May 2026 – 13 November 2026
Extension: Possible, subject to performance and business requirements
